What is MOMIC? Speaking practice in a 3D town with an AI tutor

MOMIC from A to Z: a 3D town in your browser, an AI tutor by your side, 25 role-plays, 9 exam programs, a World Zone of 250+ countries and safe conversations.

MOMIC (Mở Mic, 开麦) is a 3D town that runs in the browser on your phone or computer. You walk into it like a game, but everything inside is built for one job: helping you speak a foreign language more, every day.

The name means “open the mic” in Vietnamese: the moment you switch on the microphone and decide to speak. For many learners the hardest part is not learning more words; it is daring to open their mouth. MOMIC gives you a place to make mistakes without embarrassment, get corrected straight away, and come back every day.

What do you do in the town?

Walk with an AI tutor

When you arrive, a tutor comes to greet you: Emma teaches English, 小林 teaches Chinese, 민지 Korean, ゆき Japanese and Anna German. Your tutor walks beside you, turns to face you when you talk, points at things around you, writes key words on a floating board and takes you to the right place to practise.

Tutors run on large language models, so you can ask anything: practise a job interview, ask about artificial intelligence or managing money, or simply ask what the bench in front of you is called. Answers are always in the language you are learning, with subtitles in your own language when you need them, and romanization for Chinese, Korean and Japanese.

Role-play 25 real-life situations

The town is divided into districts: Daily Life Street (café, restaurant, hotel, bank, clinic), the Airport (check-in, security, immigration), the Office (meetings, interviews, presentations), the Business Centre (client meetings, price negotiation, contracts, trade fairs) and Industry (factory QC meetings, warehouse, construction site).

Each situation has an AI character playing a role, a few tasks to complete (for example: check a bag, choose a seat, ask when boarding starts), model sentences and specialist vocabulary. You can practise in English or Chinese.

Get corrected after every turn

After each turn, your sentence is put into one of three groups: a grammar mistake (with a corrected sentence), correct but unnatural (with a better way to say it), or already right. A one-line explanation in your own language comes with it. Corrections appear after the character replies, so your flow is never interrupted, and only you can see them.

At the end of a session you get feedback on the 5 criteria of the CEFR framework (HSK for Chinese), plus an estimated IELTS band for English.

Your language, everywhere

When you sign in, you choose your interface language: English, Tiếng Việt, 中文, 한국어, 日本語, Español, Français, Deutsch, Português, Bahasa Indonesia, ไทย or Русский. From then on, menus, signs in the 3D town, your tutor's explanations, subtitles, corrections and reports all follow that language, while you practise the language you are learning.

Daily practice, without planning it yourself

  • A 5-minute placement test: 8 multiple-choice questions and 2 spoken answers scored by AI place you at A2, B1, B2 or HSK 2–4.
  • A 10-minute daily lesson: review your notebook, role-play a situation at your level, repeat 3 model sentences.
  • A notebook of corrections: every corrected sentence and new word goes into your notebook and comes back after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days. A sentence only counts as learned when you say the corrected parts correctly.
  • A streak with rest days, so one busy day doesn't wipe it out.
  • A tutor who remembers you: your level, your repeated mistakes, the goals you've mentioned; the next lesson adapts to them.

Programs for exams and work

Beyond the town, MOMIC has 9 specialised programs: IELTS Speaking, Korean for EPS work in Korea, TOPIK, Japanese for work in Japan, JLPT, German for vocational training and nursing, Chinese for work in Taiwan, HSK and HSKK and English for working abroad.

The last unit of each program is a timed mock test. The AI examiner follows the rules and never teaches during the test; long turns (such as IELTS Part 2) give you 1 minute to prepare, then the mic opens by itself. When you finish you get a result card: estimated scores for each criterion, feedback that quotes what you said, three things to work on and a model answer you can listen to. Pronunciation has to be judged from audio, so the mock test marks it “not scored” instead of guessing.

The World Zone: more than 250 countries and territories

From the town's airport you can fly to any country or territory. Each one has its own square with a welcome gate in two languages, the national flag, buildings that echo the region's architecture and 6 knowledge booths. A local AI guide talks about history, culture, food, work and study, and teaches you one phrase in the local language on every turn. See the World Zone page.

Talking with real people, safely

You can see everyone in town, but only people you invite, and who accept, can hear you. When you stand next to someone, a card suggests a way to start the conversation, with a button to invite them to talk. Group rooms run on a schedule with a host; inside a room you only hear each other after you tap to join. You can mute one person, block them or report them with one tap.

What MOMIC can't do yet

To help you choose honestly:

  • No sound-by-sound pronunciation scoring yet. MOMIC corrects your sentences and checks that you said every corrected part; detailed pronunciation scoring is being tested.
  • Korean, Japanese and German are read by your phone's or computer's built-in voices; they don't have dedicated voices like English and Chinese yet.
  • Interface translations outside English and Vietnamese are machine-assisted and still being reviewed.
  • Mock test scores are estimates for practice, not a replacement for official exam scores.

How to start

Open the link to the town on your phone or computer, choose your language, a name and a character, and allow the microphone. Nothing to install, no account needed. MOMIC is free during the trial period.

MOMIC is a product of BAT Ai (Công ty Cổ phần Tập đoàn BAT AI), Vietnam.
